when an axys toes go black does this mean they want to make babies or just that they are ready?

all my axys are gender confused i think! well im sure they know what they are...so im gender confused!...about them! think i will just take them all to the vet for a check up n get him to sex them! can vets do proper tests like scans or somethin to determin for sure what sex they are? why is fijibob so skinny yet a titchy cloaca the same size as harriets (who is DEF a girl) with black toenails? which ok i have mentioned b4 its just i really want a def answer! so ya think a vet will know? id rather get a proper answer by scans n stuff though cos dont think id trust him. although i dunno....if he told me hat i wanted to hear id prob trust him lol

as i've said before - axi's arnt all the same!!! They are like humans - everyone is different!

some very small ladies have huge ENDOWMENTS, and some large ladies have none!

Same with males some ARE WELL ENDOWED and some have little ones.

It doesnt matter what size their bits are - if they want to mate - then they will!!!

How much are you spending on vet bills??? Cause everytime you post somthing you say your going to take them to the vet?

oops - sorry if i offended anyone with my language there - i didn't mean to use those words - actually i thought they would block out automatically. Sorry!!!!

Don't kick me off john!!! please!!!

LOL no worries Mary I edited your text (just to make sure). Nevermind, never a truer word said.

Jenny, stop worrying so much, as Mary says when they are ready they will. Some people are lucky enough that they can't stop their beasts mating others have a more leisurely attitude towards it. Pateince girl, patience. I bet you were a terror to the local lads when going through puberty!

The toe thing, like many other things, isn't sure fire proof of sexual maturity. but I'll tell you what is: Spermatophores all over the tank one day followed by many more eggs the next.

Your so excited by your axies you want everything to happen immediately. I am sure we all share your enthusiasm. I've been dying for mine to get affectionate since March but none feel like it right now. I've separated the males out played, Barry White even provided them with access to magazines of a specialist axolotl nature and nothing. No worries, I know they will but they'll do it in their own good time. Wonder if viagra works on axies?

only mentioned vet once b4 and that was on fri or sat. and vet isnt opened at weekened so havent yet been. plus he said i have to wait a few days while he refreshes his mind on axys. but oswolds fungus has gone now anyways (which is why i was gonna take em) so...

Thanks mik!!! I thought that the words would block themselves out automaticaly!!! Nicely put!!!

Sorry if i upset you jenny, I didn't mean to.

what if the tips of the toes turn white what does that meen

Carl, I trust you mean on a wildtype? As far as I know it means nothing, assuming animal is healthy in all other respect.

The black toe tips are a due to build of something called Keritinase (I think). Someone correct me on spelling etc.

Keritinase : what exactly does it do ( besides turn their toes black ) Is their any way to make it go away??

as far as i know it's just a reaction to axie 'puberty' - like getting body hair *g* why would you want it to go away? it's nothing harmful, perfectly normal and even good!

lol a little axi going through puberty thats funny could you emagine them if they got hairy that would be so funny lol

not an overly important Q just a curious one....if you have sat 2 melanoid 2 wildtype 2 leceustic 2 albino male and female of each all sexually mature and horny. will they tend to go with their same type? do they know who is same as them? or do they just go with whoever passes their path first?

wild animals generally go for the mate that will produce them the best offspring - so the female would choose the biggest, strongest, healthiest male to fertilise her eggs. technically, anyway. dunno if axies are that clever in practice ;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
