Necturus sp. first ever breeding?

Discovered 10 eggs this morning.

If fertile, I think this would be a first time breeding for "Necturus cf. beyeri".

I have been considering getting out of salamanders completely, but this has renewed my interest. I have no idea if they are fertile, but 2 have fungused so far. They are being guarded, so we'll see in a few days. Either way it's a step in the right direction.

The tank houses 5 specimens that I collected as hatchlings in N.FL about 4 years ago.

thats really amasing! youve been really lucky with breeding - first with the paddletails and now with this! if i were you i would stick with the sallys as this is brilliant!

That's awesome. That probably is the first breeding for cf beyeri. Hopefully they'll be fertile, even if not its a great achievement. Good luck. Yes, pictures of the adult guarding the eggs would be very cool, because I'm sure not many (if any) people have seen that before.

I did snap some REALLY BAD pics. I am trying to get some better shots. My camera is not focusing well anymore and I can't afford a new one right now. I'll post something soon, but don't expect much.

I just checked and she is still laying eggs. She's very fat still so fingers crossed.

This came at the right time because I was getting a little tired of keeping some of these species for years with no success. I was starting to understand why most people keep Cynops, Triturus, etc... success is sort of fun. I guess I just need more patience.

Now lets hope they are fertile.

Congrats Erik. Hopefully they will be fertile and you can work out more info on the husbandry of these. I was talking to Viki Poole about the amphibian TAG group working with beyeri and then working their way up to some of the rarer species. You are on the cutting edge.

Wow congratulations.
There is not so much info on captive care of beyeri. Could you tell us the temperature tolerance? What are the diferent temperatures you kept them all year round? Light periods or any information that coud be interesting?
