Hi,
my T.verrucosus eggs hatched today. The fries r free swimming now.

Can anyone tell me how to keep the babies (abt 100++ babies)??

1) Tank size??
2) Water level??
3) Do I need an air pump??

Currently I'm keeping the free swimming fries in a 1 ft by 1 ft tank with 1 inch water depth. Feeding wise I read the caresheet by John already.

Thanks

1 inch deep only, sounds a little too shallow for 100++ larvae. If they just hatched it will be a month be for they actually develop lungs, let alone use them. Once they have all four legs begin to worry about the water level although they won't need to visit the surface much until their gills dissapear (don't wait for this to happen to put land in though or you'll end up drowning them). At this stage, space is most important. Also it would be a good Idea to split the larvae up into small groups of 5-10 in small tupperware containers during early development.

Hi,
thanks for the reply.

If I put the larvae into group of 5 to 10 what will be the water level like??

YoZ bro, wish u all the best in successfully breeding them....

Read this too, if you didn't already:

I agree with Dave, they need deeper water and smaller groups. You have to achieve a balance between (1) enough food, and (2) a large enough water volume that waste products do not build up. Don't be afraid to pour the larvae from one container to another (or into a soft net) in order to change the water.

I'm not Dave.

Indeed, you are not Dave. My apologies, Ben. Forgive me, I'm getting old.

I don't think you will need an airpump, it might just annoy the larvae do to current.

I second joseph, water changes are safest for small young. I'ld say for very small larvae 2x2x2(inches) would be adequate for about 2.5 larvae, so for five larvae just double any one of those dimensions, and for ten quadruple it.
