My Kaiseri started laying for the first time all over the tank. I collected most of the eggs and transfered them to a new tank, but only a small number have developed or hatched so far. Unlike other newts I have raised in the past, these newts don't seem to have a preference for any specific plant/material for egg laying - they were laid randomly throughout the tank in moss, valisnera, rocks, driftwood - pretty much everywhere but the soil. Is it normal to only have about a quarter of the eggs develop? A lot of them went cloudy/moldy, much more than I have experienced before. Wondering if I should just leave future eggs in the tank with the parents.

I have heard two ways of trying to get the eggs, no idea if either works as I don't tend to find them. One person said just use a yarn mop. That would certainly be easiest if they will use it.

Another person put a shallow Tupperware filled with rocks in their tank and the newts would lay in the Tupperware.
