I just got 2 cute little axolotls, a wild type and a leucistic. They're about 3 inches and totally cute, I got them into their tank about a half hour ago, and the leuc hid for a while but is out now, and the wild type stayed out. They both seemed fine until just now when it looked like they both stuck their noses in the sand and took a bite! I have play sand in there and it's not completely fine, some little pebbles in there, but it looks like it's just sand they're after. Is this bad or will they learn it's icky and stop? Someone put my fears to rest, please!

What size are the pebbles? I would recommend removing the pebbles.

Im a new axie mommy too and i got bubbles about 4 months ago she also took a few nice sized bites and just doesn't do it anymore, i use sand and yea i wouldn't keep any rocks, pebbles in there. :)

Today I fed them, and fed them wrong, I didn't use a jar and dropped a chunk of frozen blood worms in and made a mess... They ate most of them up good and now have fat bellies, I noticed when they tried eating them they had to spit some sand out :/ BUT they spit it out, meaning they didn't eat it. I will try and sift out the pebbles, but for now I think they're not hungry enough to eat rocks lol
