When we got nine baby axolotls in from a breeder at the pet store where I work I just knew I had to have some! About two months ago I got two! The melanoid is Mud and the leucistic is Kip (yeah I'm a bit of a pokemon nerd). They are in a 40 breeder and the gravel is actually glued down with silicone so no chance of them swallowing it :) the tank picture is a bit old as I'm actually in the process of getting more plants. The cliff to the left actually hides the filter and has a ledge that breaks the flow of the water so there isn't much surface movement. Anyway this is just my way of introducing myself to the forum and saying Howdy!

\Welcome,

Glad the gravel is glued down :) They're so cute!
Mine's called Wooper, bit of a pokemon nerd too ;)

The tank looks great :)

personally I would be raising the water level quite a bit. Lotls like to have a good swim if its available & it's much easier to keep the parameters healthy with more water :)

The lotls are so gorgeous :D

Oh also with the glued down gravel check they're still stuck down occasionally because I've found the porous stones can fall off the silicone once heavily waterlogged.
(I've used siliconed gravel & stones for some hides & I've found a few stones have come loose when touched)

That is one sweet set up! Interesting idea with gluing the gravel down, the only disadvantage to it is that it really cuts down on the surface area for good bacteria to grow, but with all those plants that shouldn't be an issue. Your babies are adorable!!!

Thanks for the welcome :) the water level is actually higher now. The picture of the tank was taken while I was still establishing the bacteria and before I had gotten the axolotls. I really should take a new picture, I just get so focused to the axies that I forget to haha. It was actually one of my coworkers that set up and designed the tank. He's won several awards for aquarium design so I feel really lucky!!

I had used this forum for all kinds of information while I was researching them and I figured it would be a good idea to join now that I have them :)

And thanks for the tip on checking for loose gravel. I'll be sure to keep and eye out!

My axxies name is Charmander! (Don't ask we were drunk and thought we'd rebel and name it a fire type :p)
I love your tank and your babies are adorable!
