I just got my new leucistic Axolotl yesterday and I'm so excited! He/she is so tiny, I just have one question. My willow isn't moving around as much. He/she eats well and swims to the top of the tank to get some air then comes back down. They sometimes walk a bit around but not as much as I've seen other Axolotls move.

Could this be stress from the move? Is my axie still getting used to the new environment? Is this behavior normall?

Thanks for your help!

They do take a bit of time to get used to their environment. Axolotls tend to be somewhat lazy in nature and will often sit in the same position for some time. Juvenile axolotls tend to be a bit more active than adult axolotls. He/she probably needs more time to fully settle in.

Have you cycled your tank and tested the parameters? This would be a good step to rule out any issues with water quality.

Yes I have, I cycled the tank for about a month before I even bought my axie. Then I tested the water and it was fine but I did a water change just to be safe. I think you might be right about my axie getting used to it.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
