The sister species previously confused with Paramesotriton caudopunctatus and occuring at Youyang and Jiankou, has been described as Paramesotriton wulingensis. This species has been previously reported in phylogenetic studies, but until now was not described or illustrated as such. The paper is in Chinese with illustrations and diagrams, and English abstract including description.

Abstract:

Paramesotriton caudopunctatus populations distributed the Wuling Mountains were named a new species, Paramesotriton wulingensis, based on morphological differences, nuclear POMC and mitochondrial sequence molecular data, distinguished the Leishan population of P.caudopunctatus (topotype) by the following characters: 1) body color is deeper, appearing as dark brown; tubercules of the body back are bigger; apophysis of dorsal ridges is lower for the new species; body color is lighter, brownish yellow; tubercules of the body back are smaller; apophysis of dorsal ridges is higher for the Leishan topotype of P.caudopunctatus; 2) the suture in the middle of nose protrusion is deeper for the new species (versus shallower in the Leishan topotype of P.caudopunctatus);3) the suture lines connected to the prefrontal with the nasal is wavy for the new species(versus left and right sides were significantly a "?" in the Leishan topotype of P.caudopunctatus); 4) for the new species, the squamosal of forehead-squamosal arc vertical reach and the front is crude and the back is fine from dorsal view (versus horizontally reach and the thickness of the front and the backis the same from dorsal view in the Leishan topotype of P.caudopunctatus); 5) the frontal branch of pterygoid are longer and arrive at the posterior edge of maxillary for the new species (versus shorter and don't arrive at the posterior edge of maxillary in the Leishan topotype of P.caudopunctatus).

Volume 37 Issue 2 of the same journal contains an interesting paper on Sinopotamon, a genus of freshwater crab likely to be frequently sympatric with Chinese salamanders. The species and subspecies are mapped and discussed biogeographically.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
