Hello! I stumbled across this site about a month ago and have been lurking and figured I would say Hi. I currently have a small community of tiger salamanders but have been looking to get some Axolotl to add to the collection. I have always seen them in the pet shops and stared at them but go figure when I want to pick a few up I cannot find one anywhere:mad:. I seen there were some other Hawaii members and I was hoping maybe I could find a source on Oahu. Thanks!

I have not heard of any axie breeders in Hawaii. But if you've seen them in shops, then there could be a breeder. I would ask the managers at the pet shop(s) where you have seen them. They may know the source. Are you certain that the axies you saw in shops were axies and not waterdogs? Were they all brown, or various colors?

Welcome!

Their are people in Hawaii working with some axolotls I've sent them. As far as I know you don't need a permit to keep an axolotl in Hawaii. You need a dept. of ag permit to have an axolotl shipped to Hawaii from another state. You need a lot of permits to have an axolotl shipped to Hawaii from another country.

They are Axolotl for sure. All different color variants. I talked to some friends who own shops and work at them and they said they axolotls come from a big island breeder and I also have heard of some mysterious old guy that shows up with a bucket full of them and sells them to the shops. I always wanted to pick one up but my wife never cared for them and I was more into my fish then amphibians. I have numerous fish tanks with everything from exotic to simple. The biggest currently is 360 gallons.
I have no problem getting the permits from ag if I can find a reliable source to ship here for a reasonable price. I bring fish in all the time.

Try locally. If you can't find anything in Hawaii shoot me an email. You should be able to email me through my profile. I ship several shipments of salamanders to Hawaii every year.

E-mail sent. Thanks for your help. I went to almost every pet shop and they all said they have not recieved any in the last 2 months. They are waiting for the local breeders to call and say they have some.
