hi everyone im new here even though ive been keeping amphibians for ages and have used the info pages on caudata for a while.

Im posting because my orientalis have finally decided to breed (after two years) and ive hatched a couple of eggs. These are my first newts babies so Im not quite sure what to do.

Theyve been out of the eggs for around 2 weeks now and one them is starting to develop its hind legs.

When should I expect him to morph (I know it takes months) and how big will he be at that stage?

I am currently feeding live baby brine shrimp which seems to keep them happy and fat

Hi Andrew! This is a great site, you will enjoy it and appreciate it, I'm sure.

Try Caudata Culture for more info. Here is a great article to get you started.

Good luck, and welcome!

PS: The "SIMPSONS" in Malta!!! My son is a HUGE fan of the Simpsons! Small world, large humor.

Congrats on the larvae! I think mine took 3 or so months to morph. At morphood they are usually for me around an inch or so long(guessing). You can look through the photo gallery or this forum as I'm sure someone has posted photos of new morphs. They will need very small food items like blackworms, fruitflies etc. when they are morphed.

hehe yeah the simpsons are quite popular here too.

Thanks for the info, very useful.

I am a bit worried bout what I will feed them once morphed as it is not easy to get black worm and fruitfly cultures here in malta.
Ill have to figure something out.

At what size do they start to get the red bellies?
