Hi please help i have only recently become the proud owner of my very first axolotl as far as i can tell he is a sexually mature male. Poor Uther Pendragon has a funny little bubble/blister around 1cm by 6mm just behind his front left leg on his torso, he hasnt eaten anything today and he has a white substance sort of "growing" on his skin. Other than that he seems to be pretty healthy, he doesnt move around a lot but heis in my bedroom and im not in there a lot during the day so he could be very active. I dont want him to be sick!!!!! i have read a lot of info from the net but still dont know what to do or how to treat him if that is necessary. Should i take him to a vet and what could it be? Please help my baby needs you.

The white substance is fungus. Put 2-3 teaspoons of salt (table salt will do or even aquarium salt) to a litre. Give your axie a salt bath for ten minutes. Fifteen minutes max or it will burn your little guys skin and make it in worse health. Bath twice a day. Also put your axie in a container in the fridge because cool temps make them heal faster. Put a couple of declorinated water bottles in the fridge as well so when you change your axies water daily it will be declorinated and the same temp. When your axie is in the fridge wrap the container in a tea-towel so that when people open the fridge to get something the axies water temp stays the same. Also don't worry if it isn't eating while its in the fridge because the colder the temp the lower the metabolism. Put food in the container anyway just incase its hungry but if not eaten take out. Remember to change water daily!! Leave the little guy in the fridge until the fungus is gone the three days after it has gone to make sure it doesn't come back. And about the lump read this: www.axolotl.org/health.htm

scroll down to the Fluid Disorders, Genetic and Nutritional Problems page and read. I hope this is helpful to you. Oh, and while you are changing the axies water give it a salt bath with the second bottle of water with the right amount of salt per litre. Don't forget to fill them back up again with declorinated water. Hope all goes well

How long has your tank been setup prior to adding your axie? How long have you had your axie?

Just wondering if your tank was cycled.

Also, what has your tank temperature been and have you had any problems keeping the temperature below 24C?
