Hi everyone!

I have been thinking about getting an axolotl, and I am in the very early planning stages. I have been reading up on axolotls, have read through axolotl.org (though I will continue to read through it many times I'm sure!)

Does anyone have an opinion on an acrylic tank versus a glass tank? The tank I've been eyeing is the SeaClear 40 gallon tank. It's a bit expensive but it seems to be the right size and proportions for what I want for the axolotl. I know it seems big for just one axolotl, I might get two. I'm not sure yet. The main thing I'm concerned about it that this acrylic tank apparently is enclosed on top, with cut-outs for filters and such. Should I have a tank that opens fully on top for an axolotl?

After I get the tank set up I will need to cycle it. This article seems helpful but if anyone else wants to recommend a different site, or a book, I'd gladly read it.

The axolotl will be in the basement where it remains cool even in summer, as I'm concerned about the beastie possibly overheating if it's upstairs.

Thank you for reading this, and I'm sure I will be lurking around for a while.
