Newt city

i built a pond, nothing new in that. i added fish.. then came the uninvited but sweet guests, the newts, must have been two due to a few years later my pond is newt city and the fish have to move aside. can anyone tell me how the newts sused out i had a pond, and how can i reduce their numbers, other than that i will just have to have a pond with an expanding population of newts..thank you, kay
