Newt Missing(eating?) its toes

I have two fire-bellied newts, one of which appears to be eating its own toes. I've seen this behavior in birds, usually a sign of infection, but don't know how to treat it in newts (new to newts).

He otherwise seems well and is eating. I cleaned his tank don't know what else to do, or look for.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance, C. Isais

describe the behaviour. it may not be what you think it is. also describe what its feet looks like-or better yet get a clear picture.
