I just watched this process. Quite amazing. I love how he takes care of cleanup afterwards, too.

yeah, i watched my granulosa shed, and he was more black, now he's brown..you could see where he shedded it was brown and where he didnt he was black..was interesting

i too just witnessed the process form start to finish in one of my t. shanjing

Fascinating - and interesting to compare to my c. orientalis - the shanjing seems to be dependant entirely on a rough surface or as in this case the glass divider in the tank whereas my orientalis use there mouths much more in removing the skin.

Its then prety cool watchin it eat the skin in one big gulp

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
