Hi everyone,
Just thought I would make a first post and introduce myself. I'm Tran, I'm a chemistry student, and I've been interested in axolotls for over a year now. My membership on this forum started in 2007, and since then I've been obsessively reading the forums in anticipation of getting axolotls. I also want to say "thank you" to those knowledgeable people who do an excellent job with getting good information out there regarding axies; you are doing a great service to everyone in the community.
Right now I'm in the process with setting up a tank, 55 gallons (48" long) with pool filter sand, some plastic plants, a few hiding places, an Eheim Pro II filter and a JBJ Artica chiller. The water is taking longer than I anticipate to cycle; but I hear that is to be expected
My husband and I have 4 young axies (about 3-4 inches long) : Maya (leucistic), Ginger (golden albino), wild type (unnamed), and melanoid (also unnamed). The unnamed ones are the newer additions. I realize they are very female names for axies whose genders have not been determined, but we are likely to keep calling them that no matter how they turn out! They are being kept in separate containers with daily water changes and fed blackworms and bloodworms. Maya and Ginger eat a lot, too much maybe We do try to limit them and cut them off when it looks like their little tummies are bulging. The newer ones will get used to the eating schedule soon I think, they are eating more by the day. Anyway that's enough talk from me. Looking forward to finally participating in the forum.
