hello! i really need help. my newt doesnt really like red wigglers but thats all petsmart and the bait shop around here sell. sometimes when it rain, i can find really tiny earthworms across the drive way. but there so small it would take like 50 to even fill my newts belly. everywhere i try to search on the internet to buy some in bulk or whatever only sell the red wiggles labled as earth worms. does anyone have any help as to where i can buy normal earthworms that you'd just find digging a hole, the ones they use to use for fishing. i use to live in florida and they were always around and now im in north carolina. i need the ones that dont go in the fridge. they just squirm through dirt at room temp. i just need a website or place that mails them b/c i just cannot find them anywhere. please and thank you. petsmart doesnt sell them, bait and tackle here doesnt and walmart doesnt. any ideas?

I'm surprised that your bait shops and walmart don't have Canadian nightcrawlers. These are pretty popular as bait, and make fine food for newts. I would suggest trying to call additional bait shops on the phone and ask if they have these. Even gas stations sometimes sell them. However, Canadian nightcrawlers *do* need to be kept in the refrigerator. You can buy various kinds of worms online, but you have to order large quantities, which is usually not practical for one newt.

The worms on your driveway are probably good newt food. Just rinse them off well.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
