Ive just been out into the back garden to try get a few photos of newts going about their business. heres a T cristatus

Not as nice looking as they would be in the spring-summer, but Im glad to have them in the garden, just the same.
Both photos were taken by torchlight.
 
What night time temperatures are you getting down there Morg? we have had a couple of nights touch freezing now.
have you noticed a temperature barrier for them being active?
 
Night time temperature has been as low as -1c here, but is usually at around 4-5c.
The coldest night was the only night I saw no newt action.
As the weather cools down though, I have come across no newts underneath overturned logs or rocks through the day.
They now spend the daytime in the underground hibernicular, which is shared by both the cristatus and vulgaris.

i might go for a look see one night this week... I'll check up on all those larvae too, see if they have done anything.
