Im curious if anyone has had a rather fat axolotl?

my brother says mine are fat because they eat so much!

Thoughts on this though please such as health issues or even more lazy?

My axi is fairly round... but not obese

Is your's belly bigger than its head?

Mine are all rather round too, all have belly sizes on par with their heads.

perhaps you have a few females? they tend to be "rounder".

Yeah!

Aaran, have you heard the general rule that when looking at the axolotl from above, the belly at its middle should be as wide as the head? They are quite curvy little critters, and, as Chris said, the girlies more so.

I think my one is!!! His name's Mr Podge-a-lot!

look at his tum-tum:

From above there heads are slightly larger :)

But they look like they should slide around on their tummys like seal's almost as their tiny feet arent big enough to carry them haha :D

Lol!
Podge is podgey

you can always feed him/her every 2nd or 3rd day if you wanted to trim down :)

Podge is adorable!

I have an axie who's a bit of a chub too.

He's called Snacks-a lot-l. (named by my 6 year old, gotta love his sense of humour!)

I got told you're meant to feed them twice a week? Is this something else I'm doing wrong for poor Inca? God - you guys must think I'm the biggest idiot on this forum! :(

And I think Podge looks really good and healthy. Tell him/her not to listen to your brother - REAL men like a woman with curves haha... and some men like men with curves... too... haha :p

you're no idoit, you have no way of knowing these things unless you ask. we would much prefer you asking questions about general care than posting a thread in the "sick axolotl" subforum.

younger axies should be fed daily, and when they are adults, every other day is fine. I feed mine every second day.

My adult axolotl is a bit of a weird one.. I try to feed him every other day but he doesn't quite get this concept.... :p

I spoiled him when he was small, and his a bit of a bad hunter. His got the hang of it now though! And his eating his pellets again which is good, and some other foods, so now his getting a variety. But his not overweight, his body lines up with his head so thats the way I'd like to keep it :p

But his also quite long! I don't know what made him grow so long!

I get my albino to chase the tweesers around the tank for food, but its difficult with codex due to his tank position so i have to drop little bits of bloodworm around the tank in about 4 places so it has to hunt.

theres a video of codex here, tell me if you think its a fatty!

footage isnt great.

He's adorable! His gills are so long! I don't think he's fat, he's perfectly slim :p

thanks chris :)

poor inca! she has got to have the most ridiculous owner ever lol :p

The only obese axys ive seen are ones fed exclusively on high protein pellets, they were 12-14 inches long and as round as a coke can, absolutely massive ,but very unhealthy looking.

one of mine appears very chubby, especially compared to his tank mate, she(?) only gets fed twice a week too!! I'd feed the other one more but she always notices and I don't want her becoming obese!!
