How often are strange colored smooth newts seen?
I saw one in a garden pond yesterday, which looked almost albino.
The main colouration was a sort of very light sandy orange it was covered in slightly darker spots.[making it look like it was wearing a leopard print jacket]
She is very easy to see, and I was watching her try to sneak up on tadpoles with no luck at all, as they see her coming every time.
Are there such things as albino newts?
Or do you get odd colored ones a lot? and its just that I've never come accross one?.

I'm not sure if it is usual or not, but in my opinion, if it can't catch food, it will die. Maybe you should collect it and give it blackworms or something.

To Morg: In my experience, smooth newts can be variable. I've seen specimens that were light sandy brown/yellow, greenish brown and I once saw a male that was blackish but with silver "highlights".

To Babamba: I doubt that newt would be alive if it wasn't successful at finding food.
