I'm worried...Gaara's gills have gone a really light pink (being a golden albino they have red gills yeah?) and he's getting some round fluffy white things attaching near the tip ends of the gills...Is it fungus? :S
Their gills go pale if they're sleeping, or if they're not doing anything. If the ends of the gills look very pale, but don't look like 'cotton', then I doubt it's fungus. Mine occasionally look kind of grey on the ends, but don't have that characteristic 'cotton' look.
I'm wondering if any forum member got pictures of axie with fungus? I'm not sure how does it look like, it will be great if I can get some more information from the picture and make sure our axies didn't suffer with that.
interesting - came home from work and the white blob thing at the end of his gill had dropped off - along with half of the gill stalk it was attached to...any ideas whats going on?
I had the exact same thing a few weeks ago with Chilli. At first I assumed it was fungus although it didn't look like any fungus I had ever seen on fish but then I discovered that my water levels (Nitrite and PH) were totally wrong because I hadn't been keeping the tank as clean as I thought I was. The lady in the pet shop suggested that what Chilli was suffering was actually acid burn because the PH was so low, once the levels were corrected the white on his gills went away. As you have described it fell off, a couple of days later came back again then went again but after about a week it was completely gone (it did get worse before it got better) and he is now clear. So first things first I would get a kit and check your water or take a sample to the pet shop to be checked.
