One of Monster's eyes has gone cloudy - any ideas?

Hello – I need some advice about my axolotl Monster.

Recently I noticed that one of his eyes had become quite cloudy. He doesn’t seem to be affected by it and he is still eating and swimming around so I can’t tell whether he can still see out of that eye. The eye has been cloudy for about two weeks now although it doesn’t seem to be getting worse and the other eye is not affected. I recently did a water change so the water quality should be ok. I wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what might be wrong.

I have tried to take a photo of Monster to show the cloudy eye. I am not sure how much detail you can make out – but you can tell that one eye looks very different to the other one.

Thanks for your help

Not sure what that could be and I've never heard of water causeing problems with eyes. If it's really worrying you I would take him to a vet that specilizes or at least knows something in anphibians

How old is he? Maybe just getting old and loseing sight. Or maybe injured it, if it's been a few weeks could be scar tissue.
Good luck! I hope whatever it is it get's better

Monster is only about three ears old. I live in West London (UK) and don't know a good vet for amphibians. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Er... make that three years. I don't want to suggest I remove his ears or anything.

Sorry, but I have to ask is it the right one? It looks a bit sort of indented. Does the eye have a noticeable cottony/furry look about it? Just wondering if it might be a fungal infection.

Id give him a 10 min salt bath and see wat happens a day after. Only 10-15 mins at most for the salt bath. You dont want to burn him. hopes this helps

Hi and welcome Ben. Am sorry I can't help with your axie's eye problem. Don't think its fungus, cos it hasn't spread. But I do know a very good vet in London for axies. He is not cheap, tho.Last time I took my axie, it cost £95. (About £50 for consultation, and the rest was for her injections, medicines etc) here is the website:www.c.j.hall.btinternet.co.uk

Thanks for the vet recommendation!

It's actually the left eye (in the pics) which has gone cloudy. Both his eyes were completely clear until now.

There's no sign of a furry look to the eye that I can see - the eye ball just seems to have changed colour.

I'll give it another couple of days and then see about the salt bath - I've never done this before so i'm a bit nervous.
