Hi all,

I recently purchased a lot of P. glutinosus and was wondering if anyone might be able to i.d. the subspecies?

Attached are some pics!

Thank you,

Lydia

I don't think there's any way to ID them, unless you can find out where they were harvested.

Plethodon glutinosus. No subspecies, but a small stack of named and unnamed species. It can be quite difficult at times to ID them from appearance, especially in populations with hybrid backgrounds, but these look like textbook P.glutinosus.

There are differences in underside coloration which can be important to identify some, and that's not visible here. Some species and color phases are so tricky that you need every clue, including underside color and at least the state of origin. Some states may have half a dozen species of slimies, plus woodlands and hybrids, but at least you can rule out another 15 choices right from the start.

It's nearly impossible to tell, but I do want to tell you that those are absolutely beautiful specimens. I don't believe that I have ever seen any with side coloration like that.

Good luck, man. They're a great species to work with.
