This is a male T. shanjing acquired 4 weeks ago. He is active and a very enthusiastic feeder - to the extent of becoming quite tame.
However, in the time I have had him, he has not put on any weight whatsoever, which is unusual. (The other three female newts I obtained all eat as much as him and have grown significantly.)
Further to that, his right parotid gland has recently acquired a very pale appearance. It isn't an open sore.
I will be seeking a veterinary opinion very soon, however I would be very grateful for any input regarding what it could be and how it could be treated. Also as to whether or not it could be affecting his ability to put on weight.
Setup is a soil mixture with large pieces of cork bark and a small water dish which is cleaned and refreshed regularly. All animals have been feeding on waxmoth larvae and earthworms.
(I am aware that it is likely he does have a high parasite load, and that this could be the cause of his not growing. However I wouldn't be comfortable using anthelmintics on him due to his small size.)
Many thanks!
