I’ve purchased a Freshwater Master Test Kit, for pH, High Range pH, Ammoniaque, Nitrites & Nitrates

I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve read the directions & I get the basic idea but where do I want the levels to be for Axos? I just assume as neutral as possible but I want to be sure. Any advice is appreciated. I have been struggling with my tank set up for a long time

From my experience, most of the Ambystoma genus does well at a broad range of pH, some like to keep it a little higher to replicate sediment runoff after snowmelt in the pools you would find them in the wild. However, there is also a ton of lit. documenting Ambystoma larvae in feed lot water wells packed with decaying organic matter and pH's in the 6s. For most of these animals its about sticking to a parameter and avoiding deviations from it. all Axolotls will do just fine at pHs from low 7s to high 7s..just make sure it stays that way (aka-have a consistent source of water when you make changes). I currently live in Aurora Colorado where our tap water is trash so I mix spring water and RO water 50/50 to get the pH, GH and KH range I want.
Regarding ammonia, nitrate and nitrite...keep all those at 0 ..nitrate a little above 0 is okay but make sure you heavily plant your tank or make partial water changes to keep that under control once the tank is cycled. Axolotls poop a lot and will give the biological filter a run for their money.

I have the same kit. For the pH test, your results should be in the highest range of the regular pH test and the lower range or two of the high pH test. Ammonia and nitrites should always be at 0 and anything below 40 on nitrate is usually fine. For ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates, these numbers will not be consistently possible until your tank is fully cycled.
