Hi! I have had my blue-gilled lucie for about 3.5 years now. When he was a baby I raised him on bloodworms. I later gave him brine shrimp and he wouldn’t touch the blood worms since. He also will only eat a specific brand of brine shrimp. I know neither of these are a healthy diet for an axolotl, so I tried switching up his food several times. He won’t touch pellets or any kind of sinking food I’ve tried. I finally have been trying to feed him night crawlers. At first I tried to give him a whole one, but he couldn’t get the whole thing in his mouth, so I cut it into fourths and he finally ate a fourth of it. Wouldn’t touch any more. Yesterday I cut up a nightcrawler for him into even smaller pieces (about an inch) and he kept spitting the pieces out and eventually just left them and wouldn’t eat them. I know he’s hungry cause he keeps searching for food and biting at nothing. I got him to eat a cube of brine shrimp this morning, but he is looking a little skinny and I am really worried. I don’t know what else to try and give him.

I think that if you keep trying to feed the night crawlers he’ll eat them. If he needs to eat he will

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
