Hey guys i hope everyone is doing well. Just a quick post to see if anyone knew what this is about. Our axolotl is leucistic and thus white, however we notice later in the day she gets a more pinky colour especially on her lower body and tail. Anyone know what this is all about? I'm constantly learning she's such a bizzare lovely critter ^___^.

Hi Neil and Charley,

An axolotls colour can change with increased activity giving the tail and gills a more reddish tinge its nothing to worry about.

Hi Neil and Charley,

An increased blood circulation to peripheral tissues show up better in leucistic and albino axies due to their lighter skin colour. As there is a major blood vessel coursing through the base of the tail, increased activity (swimming, pooping) will increase the circulation around the region, making the base of the tail appear reddish. This is normal.

Cheers.

My young leucistic is very similar to how you describe yours, Here's a pic (my first attempt at uploads lol)
