hello let me start by saying this site is the best for info. i bought a white axie from a pet shop 3 weeks ago. the pet shop owner said she would be fine to share a tank with my goldfish. to my horror the day after i noticed the goldfish eating her gills (what was left of them anyway) and one very distressed axie. so after much research on the internet, she is slowly settling into her new tank. her gills are growing back and she finally ate about 9 days after moving her to the new tank. she eats about every 4 to 5 days or whenever shes hungry (she lets me know). i do temperature checks everyday and water tests every 2nd day. i live in the nth qld tropics so everyday is hot, her tank is usually 27 degrees and if its going to be hot the next day i float a 1.25 litre bottle of frozen water in the top of her tank in the morning and replace it throughout the day if possible. we have high humidity everyday so regular checks of her tank water are a must, but she is fine and loves to swim around the tank most days. The only concern i have with her is her tail is slightly pink but the rest of her body is white. its doesn't bother her, but i cant find any info if this is common or not. otherwise i love my axie to bits, her name is Milkyway Baby and she has lots of spunk. i will post a picture when her gills have grown back fully. Oh by the way i did go back to the pet shop to tell him what i thought of his knowledge on the subject of axies and to my shock he hardly new anything at all. i strongly advised him to maybe look up this site before giving out anymore so called information.
