Planted Tank

So after a while of thinking about it I've decided to upgrade my CFB tank. I've been wanting to set up a heavily planted tank for years to make the environment a bit more enriching for the newts, so this new tank gives me the perfect opportunity. I am also finally changing the substrate from pea gravel to fine sand as pea gravel is a pain to clean. I was wondering if anyone has ever used JBL AquaBasis Plus under sand in a planted tank or if it messes with the water chemistry too much? I used it before in an eft tank and were fine, but just want to see if anyone else has used it before?
