Hi everyone,

I'm temporarily keeping my axolotl tank at 100% Holtfreter's solution due to my axolotl being sick. I think she got sick from high nitrates after I removed many of the plants from her tank. She is recovering and I'll be keeping the tank at 40-50% Holtfreter's solution moving forward as a prophylactic measure. That being said, I'm looking to make this tank heavily planted again to limit future nitrate spikes. What plants will succeed in 60-62F, low light, and 40-50% Holtfreter's solution?

Let me know!

I have had a bit of a white algae (I think) issue for the past year so I'm hoping this will help that too.

sagittaria which is a grass type grows well as does duck weed, java moss grows but at a slower rate, wide leafed tropical plants tend to have the most difficulty.

Ok cool! I use a sand substrate so anything that needs to be rooted usually fails. Would any of elodea, java fern, hornwort, or floating ferns work?

elodea and hornwort are tolerant enough provided they are left to float, java fern grows very slowly and can get out competed by algae which will grow on it.
