First of: I do not keep axolotl's. But I can tell she is underweight and has some kind fungal infection. Her gills look also bad.

I would separate the one of another and do daily waterchanges.(because I think the main reason is water quality) And go as soon as possible to a proffesional for treatments.

I hope this helps.

I agree, she’s definitely underweight. I would try and go for professional help ASAP. In the meantime, tub her in cool water, between 55-66 F, and do daily 100% water changes with Seachem Prime treated water. She looks like she hasn’t been well for a while.

Thank you! I tubbed them both completely drained and restarting their tank, took them to an emergency vet, she has columnaris, they are keeping her overnight to do some treatment on her because I wasn’t comfortable doing it myself, he also thinks she has a genetic disorder making her highly susceptible to bacteria and thinks she’s had it since birth it was just slow growing and being my firsts I didn’t notice the spotting, my other is good, a little under weight but that’s my fault I’m changing feeding routine!

Will you attack pictures of your other axo? I would tub him as well.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
