Hi everyone, long-time reader, first-time caller.

My new-ish axolotl Mozu has some white fluff that seems to be growing/caught in her gills. It seems to get to a length of about 2cm before she shakes it off, then it'll be back in a day or two.

My older axie Mudkip has developed some light spots on his head since Mozu was introduced. Could this be a fungal thing too? If so, what do I do for them?

Thank you in advance, here's a pic of Mozu's gills.

Oh yes it's fungus alright but small enough to just water change maybe just some anti fungus water treatment would do. No need to get salt burn for it. ;)

Sorry about the double post here, but does anyone have any suggestions for anti-fungal treatments? I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. I had a sick Betta in a separate tank a while ago and have a variety of medicines left over, would any of these be helpful? I have Aqua One Tropical Conditioning Salts, APi Melafix, Blue Planet Tri-Sulfa tablets, and API Bettafix. Thanks for your help.

Use API is awesome stuff you can add it to water but make sure you have enough oxygen in tank to circulate it well and it doesn't need a lot . I use API fungus treatment for my axolotl too. Just make sure water is clean and keep watch . That's all.

Sorry to be a pain, but do you mean the API Pimafix? The Furan-2? I saw somewhere that the one labelled fungus cure is no good for axolotls. Don't want to accidentally cause more damage.

I disagree , pimafix is not bad product for axolotl, of course you should never use too much of it just a drop per gallon with high oxygenate tank ,fish fungus medication is strong but very small amount can be good for large tank size. I have been using it for 5 years and they all very healthy. ( use at every first sight of fungus) I house over hundreds of axolotl from size 2" up to adult and breeders right now. I used to believe that pimafix is bad for axolotl too till one day my good friend rushed over to me asking for a help to fix their axolotl . Their one of their 2 axolotl didn't make it in time and one was covered in hairy fungus after many salt bath lost all gills any more would Stress her to death not to mention starvation cause she couldn't eat for days ( a week perhaps) I prep her a hospital tank with new uv filter and daily fresh cold water change still not shaker out all fungus and not eating .. In the end I turned to my fish med cabinet and drop some pimafix in.. Only just a day she stared to eat again , the fungus stop growing , then on the 4 days I starting to see some gills buds growing back . We thought we lost her but she is now alive, well and super fat

API Pimafix - active ingredient Pimenta Racemosa 1.0% . All natural safe for delicate fish , extracted from West Indian bay trees

Great, thanks again. I'll let you know how it goes.

So I used a 10% regular dose of Pimafix a few days ago, and so far Mozu's gills have cleaned up wonderfully. Mudkip is still looking spotty, but they don't look too scary. Thanks again!

I know most people might think I'm wrong on fish meds product but if use correctly it could save many axolotl life. Still salt bath is quickest way to solve problem if the fungus won't clear up.
