Hi everyone.
I recently set up my tank, and one of my two axolotls crawled over the dividing wall I put up and started to court the other one. I thought I got him out early enough, but I found the other one trying to lay eggs and developing prolapse from straining later in the day. I don't know if she was egg bound at the time, but I put her in a tub of fresh dechlorinated water and put her in the fridge for a couple of days. After that, I took her out and put her in a cool part of my house and began to add some aquarium salts to the water (1 tsp per half gallon of water) and that seemed to help her lay.
It's been about five days, and it looks like she's done laying eggs and the prolapse has deflated a bit. (Pics: first was her on Monday, the second was on Wednesday, and the last one was taken today) Is there any way she could make a recovery from this? I don't have an exotic vet anywhere close to me, and I wouldn't be able to cover the surgery fees if there was one, but she's been acting normal today and hasn't shown any signs of discomfort or pain.
