Possible tank mates for marbled newt

Hey everyone, I just had a question if it would be a good idea or not. My setup is mostly aquatic, but I do have a log that breaches the surface that my marbled newt stays on for the most part. I was curious if I could have another newt that is strictly aquatic, because I do not think the log would fit another land-based newt comfortably. I know as a general rule not to mix species in a tank, but it does seem like a waste of space. Thank you for any and all help.

Don't mix species. Just get another marbled newt of similar size and some ghost shrimp or something.
