What do you suppose led them to form this pyramid?

I found them formed like that when I removed paper towel they were covered with.

These kind of pictures can give way to all kind of stories..like that they behave social, or that the build a pile to help each other out of the tank or that it is the result of an aggressive fight (which nobody saw of course) but the result is that the winner ends on top! But I guess it is just that the stick together to avoid dehydration?

Yep I agree with Serge. I've always found my caudates all together when it gets a bit dry.

What species are they?
