My husband and I have decided to try experimenting with building a custom sized aquarium out of plexi glass. We have a large piece of plexi glass that has been around for quite some time and the protective paper coating has become adhered to the surface. We are having trouble finding a way to remove it without using goo gone. We have tried soaking it in soapy water but that has not helped. Normally I would try a razor blade but that is a no go with plexi. Does anyone know of something I can use that will not harm my newts later?
Thanks

Carrefull with plexiglass if you plane to do an aquatic set-up, it will leak.

You could try using ethanol, which should evaporate without leaving much residue and rinse off easily.

I have half inch thick plexi, are you saying that it will not hold water? Why is that?

Plexi is notoriously hard to seal. You have to have perfectly square edges and they have to be perfectly lined up when you put the solvent between the pieces. And getting the solvent evenly distributed is an artform. But I think if you did a fairly good job (not perfect), and then sealed it with silicone, it shouldn't leak.

Unless you have experience making tanks with plexi I wouldn't do it. Their are different grades and some are not appropriate for water tight tanks. I'd be afraid of that "sploosh" in the middle of the night.
