Re: Change of tank set up.

Hi,
I am new to this website so sorry for posting as a reply I'm not sure how it works.
I have had my axolotl for 5 months, he has always been happy in his small 20 ltr tank but I wanted him to have more space and just moved him into a 40 ltr tank, however, the water is very cloudy and won't settle. This was unexpected but I had to put him in the tank as there was no were else for him to go. I am worried that this will harm him in some way. He hasn't moved much either.
ps. there is sand in the tank that has been rinsed for 2 days.:(

Re: Change of tank set up.

Cloudy water won't hurt it, unless the quality is bad. Ideally the tank really should have been cycled prior to introducing the salamander. If you really are worried, test the water and take a look at the results

Re: Change of tank set up.

It is most likely due to the sand. Even with thorough washing new sand can make the water cloudy. It should settle though but you could do water changes to help clear it up a little. Was the new tank cycled before you introduced your axolotl? If you are worried about water quality, test your water and you can post the readings here if you like. If you hadn't cycled your new tank before adding your axolotl you will need to watch the ammonia and nitrite levels very closely and do more frequent water changes to keep ammonia and nitrite at a low and safe levels whilst the tank cycles.
