What do some of you smart people know about red backed salamanders? I saw them in a classified ad on a different site and emailed the seller for prices and stuff. Are they good pets? Any tips? they sure look cool.
They are small territorial easy to keep salamanders that may be one of the most abundent (if not the most abundent) plethodontid in the USA. The biomass of this species in NE forests is higher than that of any other vertebrate in those forests including birds. (That is a lot of small salamanders).
They need to be fed small prey items but will readily take frozen fruit flies.
(And I think they are charging way too much for them).
