Hello.

This morning I noticed that one of my Kaiser I had a red growth on his rear leg. Maybe he has had it for a while and I haven't noticed it. He's in a 30th tank with lots of rocks and hiding places, this is why I didn't notice it before.
Water temps are about 55f, no amonia, nitrates and nitrites are good and ph is at 7.8

What could this be and how can I take care of it?

Thanks

It looks more like a wound than a growth, I can't really tell from those pictures i'm afraid. I think I would be taking it to the vets if it was mine.

I agree it looks more like a wound. If a vet isn't an option look at the links below in my sig, you can find stuff on treating wounds

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
