One of my axolotls has red veins on half of his body down his tail. This is new. The other 2 doesn't have this. What could be wrong with it? It doesnt show up as much in the picture.
What are your water parameters? Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, pH? That looks suspiciously like ammonia burn. One of my axolotls has red veins on half of his body down his tail. This is new. I feed them night crawlers. One each every 2-3 days. The night crawlers are big.
Can you suggest something else to feed them? They wont always eat the worm.
get an ammonia kit asap. that is by far the most important chemical to be testing for.I'm not sure. I will have to get the test for ammonia. I thought this kit had the test but it doesnt
Did you rinse the sand clean and check that it is for aquariums before putting it in? I've also heard that it is good to stir the sand up every so often to release gas underneath and uncover any buried waste for removal. He is usually in a 50-60 gallon tank with 2 other good looking axolotls. I cleaned the entire tank, new sand also. (month ago). I keep waste dipped out and if they dont eat the worms I dip them out also.
What else can I feed them?
I would suspect your ammonia level is quite high if you cleaned the tank a month ago and have done nothing since. Water changes should be done weekly. And doing too thorough a cleaning can disrupt your bacteria colonies leading to ammonia spikes. He is usually in a 50-60 gallon tank with 2 other good looking axolotls.
