After a few days of my young axie being happy as can be and hungry as a little pig, I discovered a threadlike red worm in her tank. I do not feed her bloodworms and have no idea where it came from or how it got there. There was also a lot of poop in the tank, and she hadn't gone for a few days before. She is not acting or appearing sick. Is the worm a parasite?

I don't have any pictures of the worm, but it was about an inch long, looked like a string (not flat), and a deep red color.

There is a parasite that I've seen in creeks called a nematomorpha. It looks like a red string. If you Google about aquarium worms, I remember seeing another aquarium forum that made a list with pictures of different creatures & bugs that get in tanks.

Have you fed blackworms? They turn red in an aquarium, and a stray blackworm could live in your substrate indefinitely.

I haven't fed black worms, but I haven't found another worm since yesterday. As far as I have researched, I haven't found exactly the same worm online as I found yesterday. I will research some more.

If it does turn out to be a black worm, in the future should I remove it again or let the axolotl eat it?
