I recently bought two reed frogs at a local reptile expo. I wanted to know if anyone here can tell me how they breed, and how to encourage them to. Is there any sexual dimorphism? Interstingly enough, the day I bought them the female layed eggs. I got to keep them and I hope they are fertile. Check out these photos! The orange one I believe is the female. the male is hiding but he is smaller than the female and is yellow most of the time. He has markings above his eyes like the females.

I'm new to the forum.

Those appear to be Hyperolius puncticulatus. Pick up a copy of "Breeding Terrarium Animals" by Elke Zimmermann. That's the first source I can think of with a good coverage of Hyperolius.

Thank you so much for the scientific name! I'll look into that book.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
