I have a eastern newt (notophthalmus viridescens)
that isn't doing well. I have heard about salt baths and refrigeration, will this help this type of newt? Thank you

The common advice is to take them to a vet that has experience with newts. Assuming you can't do this, then use freshwater aquarium medication dosed at 1/4 strength while keeping the newt in a cycled quarantine tank.

Hi,
I don't know a lot about this species but "isn't doing well" is not enough information.
This newt is skinny but this doesn't tell us much about the cause :
- is it eating ? (if yes, feed it more)
- is it alone or has it tankmates ? (potentially stressful : isolating it could improve the situation)
- how is the tank ? the water ?
