rehomed two of my girls, kinda sad about it

yesterday i rehomed two of my axolotls, that i had for about a year. they were surrendered to me by my school, and they had been through a lot. the original owner often tried to make them walk on land, effectively destroying their slime coat. i nursed them back to health over about a year, and found a close friend to take them for me. she came yesterday to pick them up and it was oddly emotional. however, i need the tank space open for my incoming male (i have breeding plans)
any advice on how to get over this? i just miss watching them swim about in their tanks and do goofy things
