Hi I'm from Bowling Green, KY. I just got a fire belly newt yesterday and discovered this site. It is really helpful and interesting too. My newt, George is doing well now but don't want to go into the water much, I asked the pet store and they said the water may be to cold and to use a heater. Right now I just put a desk lamp that gets pretty hot on top of it for now. Does any one else have a heater or light for their newt? I thought they need to be cold. I been reading lots of info on them but I hear different things. I would love to get some comments on my gallery pics.

We're glad to have ya.

There's no such thing as too cold. Chinese firebelly newts do best at temperatures below 70F. Definitely take away the lamp.

For future reference, the pet shop usually doesn't know squat. Stick with us, we're the 'professionals'.

Hi Renee, welcome to the forum.

It's hard to make out detail because the photos are blurry ;(. I'm a pyrrhogaster newbie - are we sure that's really what that newt is?
