Rheann's Axolotl update

well, so far, it seems that most pet stores here are out of season for Axolotls. I tried the eastbayvivarium, they are out of season as well. but there is hope! a pet store here in town has offered to sell some to me, they are trying their very best to order them for me. I also called the local fish and game here, i am waiting for them to call me back about their legality as far as actually being in california. I got ahold of their answering machine a few days ago, but the pet store that i am tryign to buy from said they aren't illegal as far as pet stores go. Niles Biological has no problem sellng them here in Sacramento, problem is they are out of seaon too, lol

But anyhoo, My tank looks fantastic. I am trying to work out a cave for it right now, tried a terra-cotta pot but i am not strong enough to cut the darn thing at all, and my husband is rather clumbsy, as well as my self, so the pots just break. my Black silicone arived from bigalsonline So we're going to try something else. The pet store that I am trying to buy from is attempting to get in touch with a local breeder. If i do not hear from the fish and game by tomorrow, i will call them thursday. A lot of pet stores sell them, just really sucks they are out of season. So, i'll keep you guys posted. I'll see what i can do about the stuffed animal Axolotls. haven't talked with my husbands aunt yet, just haven't had the time, but if anyoen is interested, i can draw up a pattern and mail it to you if you like to sew! I can't sew worth beans!

so anyway guys, thats for being so patient. its nice to know that people out there care so much about such little animals

Out of season? Be sure you're not getting larval tigers. I don't think axolotls are ever out of season. Just keep an eye out. And remember, this is just longer for your tank to cycle!

I really hope this pet store is being truthful. they first asked me what color I wanted, and if i have my tank all set up, and i told them i wanted a white with black eyes, and a black. we'll have to see how it goes. I am so excited to see what happens. its like waiting for christmas! thanks!

Rheann you really have to push the issue with game and fish. If you just wait for them to call you - it could be weeks from now before they get back to you. Try before lunch hours and 1/2 an hour before they close - thats when I have the best luck getting in touch with our local offices.

When I was looking for axolotls last fall my LFS said that axolotls are a seasonal item as well.

They were only available for 4 weeks then they said their supplier was out.

With pet stores, "seasonal" means "our supplier breeds them X times a year, so we only have them X times a year", not necessarily that they actually only breed X times a year.
