Hello,

I am new here and fairly new to looking after newts. I have 2 spanish ribbed newts and about 4 days ago one of them started floating and seems unable to stay at the bottom of the tank. I wasn't too worried as they seem to do that sometimes and then they get over it after a day or so. The other newt however has now seem to have bloated and seems to be really uncomfortable. I checked the ammonia in the water and thats all fine. I was hoping someone on here could help me.

I have attached some pictures of the one who seems very bloated and uncomfortable.

Many thanks,
Ilana

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
