Any thoughts why my eastern newts are rotting? One has almost no lower jaw left and his front foot is now down to a stump. The other one's back leg is almost gone. It looks like their parts are rotting off and it's all happened with the last 8 days. Any ideas??? I would rather kill them then have them suffer like this. Thanks!!

I would say the most likely reasons are:
1. Poor quality animals recently purchased.
2. Too warm.
3. Poor water quality.

Their prospects are bleak, but I wouldn't give up hope, as limbs and jaws can regenerate. Move them to a temporary container of spring water (see http://www.caudata.org/caudatecentral/articles/Spring_water.html). If you provide more details on how they were being kept, I might have some suggestions for improving their housing if they survive.

I would suggest moving them from an aquatic setup to a terrestrial setup for a few days. This has worked for me in the past when I had suspected bacterial or fungal infections.
