Ricky's gills seem...... off to me. The first picture is from Dec 2014. The next 2 are the last couple months. He definitely getting less and less frills on his gills since I got him last year (July 2014).
But he's eating well, he's playful/active.
I check the water parameters frequently and they're all within normal ranges. Temp is usually around 68*F (I would like it lower but that's what I can keep it stable at consistently. It's never above 70 though). I do a water change weekly, or more frequently if the water parameters are off (which they haven't been). I use Prime water conditioner.
He's by himself in the tank now.... I lost my other one to a fungal infection soon after I got 'her'- I think in Sept is when she passed. But since she's been gone, he actually seems happier. He used to hide all the time when she was there; and he didn't eat much. Now he's out and always swimming around when I'm home. I wanted to get a 2nd one but I honestly don't think he wants anyone else in the tank
He eats plenty of earthworms. Hardly any blood worms now, he prefers the earth worms.
There's very little current from the filter and the airstone is in the back corner.
Should I worry about his gills? What could be stressing him? His tail isn't curved. The gills don't look curved. They just don't have any frilly things anymore :'(
Thanks.
