I recently received a book about caring for axolotls by a 'leading expert' on them. On bit that confuses me is that it says: "Sand, for example, is too small. The grains can lodge in the stomach and may eventually prove fatal; 4 - 6.5mm pea gravel will be most suitable."
Is this right?

Yeah that's the one. Also, that's what I thought. It's unsettling that an 'expert' is releasing information that could be harmful to axolotls...

Funnily enough, i got my axies from the shop which she works in. She bred my littl'uns.

In the tank they were in, it had pea-sized gravel, but to be honest, I think they would easily have swallowed it...
